From the Shade of a Tree to Shelves of Wonder: A Day at the Library
Education isn’t just about the words in a textbook; it’s about the horizons those words open. For the children of the *Dhai Aakhar Foundation (DAF NGO), learning usually happens under the open sky, driven by limited resources but unlimited determination. Recently, however, the “classroom” looked a little different. Our *Under the Tree Program students traded the rustle of leaves, turning a regular school day into a transformative journey through the world of books.
For many of these students, this wasn’t just a field trip—it was their first time stepping into a modern library. Arriving neatly dressed and wearing their ID cards with visible pride, the children were greeted by a world of organized shelves and hushed curiosity. The transition from a simple, open-air environment to a professional, resource-rich facility was written all over their faces. Initial hesitation quickly melted into pure awe as they realized every spine on every shelf held a different story waiting to be told.
The students were encouraged to explore the library freely, and it didn’t take long for the excitement to kick in. They navigated through various sections, from storytelling and fiction to science and history. Seeing a child who usually studies on a mat under a tree suddenly absorbed in a glossy storybook or eagerly pointing out a scientific diagram is a powerful reminder of why exposure matters.
This NGO student library visit was about more than literacy; it was about belonging. For children from underprivileged backgrounds, stepping into a space like the Coforge Library can be intimidating. However, by navigating this environment, they realize they belong in professional spaces too. It showed the children that learning isn’t limited to one space or one method, effectively bridging the gap between their current reality and their future potential.
As the day concluded, the students returned to their familiar spot under the tree. But they didn’t return the same. They brought back stories to share, a new-found vocabulary of “what-ifs,” and a renewed motivation to study hard. The Coforge Library visit serves as a beautiful reminder: when we provide the right guidance and opportunities, every child—regardless of their starting point—has the potential to aim higher and build a brighter future.
